MELVIN'S OBITUARY
Melvin Edward Baker, Sr., age 85 of Winchester Avenue, Moorefield, WV, passed away Tuesday afternoon, September 24, 2019 at Piney Valley Nursing Home in Keyser, WV. Born on February 9, 1934 in Piedmont, WV, he was a son of the late John Edward Baker and Bertie Lee Wilson Baker. Two brothers, a sister, a grandchild and a great-grandchild also preceded him in death.

Melvin in today’s terms would be considered an entrepreneur per se, long before that term was used to describe an individual who took a risk in business, Melvin was that individual. He dabbled in many different capital adventures from collecting from others (junk but really treasure) and recycling, timbering and wood cutting, equipment operator, mechanic work for Rueben Smith and others, a water delivery service with his son, a blown insulation company with his sons and so many other business risks and adventures. He was an Honorary Member of the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Company-46 after serving 44 years active and many years as Head Driver. He was also a member of the Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren.

Surviving is his loving wife of 62 years, Juanita M. Crites Baker; three sons, Melvin “Bud” (Judy) Baker, II of Fisher, WV, Rick A. (Patti) Baker of Old Fields, WV, Chris (Angie) Baker of Fisher, WV; a daughter, Barb L. Stickley (Jerry Haggerty) of Old Fields, WV; a brother, “Jack” Baker of Romney, WV; a sister, Norma Crites of Moorefield, WV; twenty grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and special family Rodney & Robert Weese.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 5, 2019 at the Believers Victory Center, 160 Victory Lane, Moorefield, WV with Pastor Gary Shirk, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until time of services at 11:00 AM.

Memorials in Melvin’s honor may be directed to the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Co.-46, 112 Kuykendall Lane, Moorefield, WV 26836 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N Michigan Ave, Fl.-17, Chicago, IL 60601.
