POTOSI, Wis. - Francis Jerome "Blackie" Flesch, 76, of Evansville, formerly of Potosi, died Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, in Evansville.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Evansville, with the Rev. Eric Nielsen officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ward Funeral Home, Evansville, where there will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

He was born on March 30, 1925, in Potosi, son of Edward and Emma (Duve) Flesch. He married Josephine Ohlert on June 23, 1956, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Potosi.

Mr. Flesch worked for Ryan Inc., Janesville, for 38 years, retiring in 1988 as an operations superintendent.

He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 139, for 47 years, and Land Improvement Contractors of America. He also was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church; Knights of Columbus, for 40 years; and the Knights of Columbus Honor Guard. He was active on the Evansville Planning Commission and the extra-territorial commission for the city of Evansville.

Surviving are his wife, Josephine, of Evansville; four children, Timothy Flesch (Thomas Gull), of Oak Park, Ill., Kathryn (Richard) McCoy, of Evansville, Michael (Jeanne), of Beloit, and Edward (Stacey Sokol), of Belleville; two brothers, Laverne (Eileen), of Platteville, and Gerald (Nancy), of Johnson, Iowa; a sister, Marcella Udelhofen, of Platteville; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emily McCoy; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Rider, Kathryn Wann, Dorothy Johnson; three brothers, Martin, Evans and Clarence; and a granddaughter, Katelyn McCoy.
