Mr. Appleton died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1998, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Amarillo.
He was born Jan. 6, 1920, in Clyde where he grew up and attended school. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a farmer and also had worked at Excel beefpackers in Plainview until his retirement.
On Dec. 22, 1967, he married Laura Faye McDougal.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Mike Appleton and Ivan Appleton, both of Lubbock; a daughter, Linda Henderson of Van Alstyne; a sister, Claudine Jennings of Farmington, N.M.; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church, 704 Ave. D, Abernathy, TX 79311.
