Elijah, son of William Arnold & Lucy Cannedy. Grandson of Hopson Arnold & Avie Nix. Married Rebecca A. Sanders, 19 Jan. 1860, Greene Co., IL. To this marriage 12 children were born: Sciota Ellen, Lucy, Luther E., George R., Albin Elijah, Flora M. , Benjanim Franklin, Peter J., Frederick, Twins: Ora & Zona, Martha M.

Obituary: In Memoriam Elijah ARNOLD was born near Scottville, Illinois, January 6, 1840, and departed this life at his home in Scottville, Ill, March 17, 1913 aged 73 years, 2 months and 11 days. He was the son of William and Lucy ARNOLD, natives of Tennessee and one of a family of seven children, four sons and three daughters all of whom having preceded him in death, except one brother Hopson ARNOLD, now in the Soldiers' Home at Quincy, Illinois. He was united in marriage with Rebecca SANDERS, January 19th, 1860. To this union were born twelve children. One son George R. and one daughter Lucy having preceded him to the great beyond. He is survived by his wife and ten children, five sons and five daughters, namely Sciota E., wife of John WITTE, of Butler, Illinois; Luther E. of Springfield, IL; Albin E. of Roodhouse, IL; Mattie M. wife of B. A. RUYLE of Scottville, Illinois; Flora M. wife of Charles SCOTT of Scottville, Illinois; Benjamin F. of Jerseyville, IL; Peter J. and Frederick O. at home and Ora and Zora of Jerseyville, Illinois. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his loss. He professed a hope in Christ in March 1912 and as death drew near often expressed his willingness and readiness to go. His only regret being to leave his wife and children. He had been a great sufferer for the past three years, but bore his afflictions with great fortitude His highest ambition in life was to serve his family and fellow man and was always upright and sincere in all his dealings and transactions. The funeral services were held Thursday at 11 oclock from Mt. Zion Baptist church, Rev. LONG of Oakford, Illinois, officiating. Interment in the Land Cemetery. The pall bearers were his four sons, Luther E., Albin E., Benjamin F., and Frederick G. and two son-in-laws, B. H. RUYLE and Charles SCOTT.
