Funeral services for Emmett Lee Steed, Jr., age 88, of Indianola will be 1 1:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30 at Second Baptist Church, Indianola. He died Monday, December 27 at South Sunflower County Hospital. Burial will follow in the City Cemetery. All services are under the direction of Boone-Card Funeral Home, Indianola.
Mr. Steed was a native of Sunflower County, where he received his education. He served in the U.S. Army, and after his discharge, he returned to Indianola and married Minnie Jefcoat. She preceded him in death in 1972. In 1976 he married Doris Tabor Hudson. He was a 30 year veteran of the Indianola Police Department retiring in 1986 as Chief of Police. Mr. Steed was a member of Second Baptist Church. He was an avid gardener and loved hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Doris Tabor Steed of Indianola; 4 daughters, Barbara Smith (Don) of Tupelo, MS, Donna Brasier (Larry) of Indianola, Annette Perkins (John Robert) of Pawley Island, SC and Kaye Martin (Jacky) of Anguilla; 2 sons, Larry Steed (Patricia) of Vicksburg and Charlie Steed (Sheila) of Sherman, MS; a sister, Nellie Peeples of Indianola; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 30 at the church. Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, P.O. Box 207, Indianola, MS 38751.
