It is with great deal of sadness that we announce the passing of Dorothy F. Heckman, 91, on March 3, 2020.
Dorothy was born on February 26, 1929 in the Bronx, New York to Albert and Helen (Gondor) Steinhauser. On September 6, 1952, she married the love of her life, William A. Heckmann in the Bronx, NY. They were blessed with five amazing children.
Dorothy retired as a Bookkeeper for New York Magazine in New York City. She previously worked as a Telephone Operator/Supervisor for AT&T. Family was the most important thing to Dorothy and taking care of them brought her an enormous amount of gratification and pride. Spending time with her eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren was precious to her. Dorothy was an extremely talented artist and she expressed her talent through painting and drawing. Dorothy was an avid bird lover and she loved watching them as they fed at the feeders she had in her yard. She was a history buff and loved learning anything historical about the world. More than anything, Dorothy loved to spend time with friends and family.
Dorothy is survived by her beloved children, Karen Heckmann of Carmel, NY, Debora and Thomas Quinn of Mahopac, NY, Dorothy and Dominick Cipollone of Westport, CT, William and Jenine Heckmann of Congers, NY and Eric Heckmann of Garnerville, NY. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Kristen Gabriel (Nelson), Anthony Cipollone, Marissa Cipollone, Amanda Bassett (Jeff), Megan Heckmann, Olivia Heckmann, Kaitlyn Quinn and Thomas Quinn and three great grandchildren, Liam Gabriel, McKenzie Quinn and Isabella Bassett. Five siblings, Catherine Savoca, Charles Steinhauser (Barbara), Irene Kuljanich, Alice Vitulli and Carol Steinhauser all survive her. Dorothy is predeceased by her dearly loved husband, William A. Heckman who passed in 1979. She is also predeceased by three siblings, Margie Tagliente, Helen Golio and Albert Steinhauser. Dorothy will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Cargain Funeral Home, 418 Route 6, Mahopac, NY 10541.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, March 6, 2020 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 221 East Lake Boulevard, Mahopac, NY 10541. Burial will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery, 2600 Lafayette Avenue, Bronx, NY 10465.
