Lawrence Porzio, 81, of Grants Pass died Thursday, March 29, 2012, at his home.

He was born Oct. 19, 1930, in San Fernando, Calif., to Angelo and Rosina Porzio. On Feb. 23, 1949, he married Joan Erickson, who survives. He worked as an operating engineer at General Paving Co. in Norwalk, Calif., until he retired in 1984. A year later, he moved from Paramount, Calif., to Grants Pass.

He was a member of the Operating Engineers and, after he retired, the Grants Pass Elks Lodge.

Porzio was interested in anything mechanical and loved tinkering and restoring vintage cars and antique engines.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Mike Porzio of Grants Pass and Steve Porzio of Kincaid, Kan.; two sisters, Sophie Porzio and Mary Billi, both of Pacoima, Calif.; a brother, Joe Porzio of Cayucos, Calif.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A sister, Rosemary Porzio, died before him.
