Martha Jane Carpenter, born February 18, 1950 in Murray County, Georgia was the daughter of Lawson Carpenter and Sarah Costner. Martha was the 8th of 15 children born to Lawson and Sarah, 12 of whom lived to adulthood, three boys, Thomas Jackson, John Lee Carpenter and Samuel Houston Carpenter, and nine girls, Martha Jane, Margaret Malinda, Mary Ann Carpenter, Rachel C Carpenter,
Rosa Frances Carpenter, Hulda Fidelia Carpenter, Sarah Sophronia Carpenter, Caldonia A, and Flora Elizabeth Carpenter.

She married Josiah Tedford Reagan September 17, 1868 in Murray County, Georgia, and after 1870 the family moved to Izard County, Arkansas. By the early 1900s, the family could be found in Fannin County, Texas, where they raised their children.

Martha went to her heavenly rest May 25, 1925 shortly after her beloved husband Josiah, and was buried beside him in Indian Creek Cemetery.

Martha was the sister of my GGrandfather John Lee Carpenter.
