Obituary for Betty Jean Mettke
Betty Jean Mettke went to be with the Lord on February 22, 2020, at the age of 83, in Lytle, TX. She was born on July 24, 1936 in San Antonio, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband, John W. Mettke, and parents, Valenty and Adela Moy. Betty is survived by her loving children, Linda Mettke Plante and her husband Steven, and Paul Mettke and his wife Judy; 2 grandchildren, Ginger Plante Hess and her husband Michael, and Lauren Mettke; 1 great-grandchild, Oliver Hess, and many friends.

Betty earned her BA in education from Southwest Texas University and went on to teach in elementary school for 30 years. She was a member of Highland Park Lutheran Church her entire life and later became the director and organizer of the annual turkey dinner for 16 years. In her past time, Betty volunteered at NIOSA with the Hermann Sons organization and enjoyed being a part of FIESTA activities. She received the 2013 Humanitarian Award from Pershing Lodge of Hermann Sons, and was also a part of the Optimist Club, serving as club secretary. She was awarded Optimist of the Year. Betty enjoyed gatherings and entertaining her friends, she liked to go to the lake house at Canyon Lake and water-skied until she was 70 years young. She and her husband loved square dancing which they did for over 30 years, traveling together, and spending time with her family and friends. Family was very important to Betty. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 27, 2020 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels South. Funeral Service will be on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Highland Park Lutheran Church. Interment to follow at Mission Burial Park South.
