George was a sawmill foreman who barely made money enough to support the family. Both George and Maude enjoyed singing. George & Maude separated about 1923. Because Maude could not support the family two of her children were put in different Foster Homes, one went to live with an Aunt, and Clarence 'Hank Snow' was sent to live with his Dad's mother, Peninah 'Nina' Jane Snow/Godfrey-- nee Anthony, who is reported to have abused him severely and insisted that he never speak his mother's name.
