Obituary:
Ada Ellen Knox Carey, age 82, formerly of Breckenridge, died Monday, January 18, 1999 at her residence in Mineral Wells. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thrusday at the first Baptist Church of Breckenridge with Rev. Tim Heavins and Rev.Cecil Harper officiating, under the direction of Melton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Carey was born September 6, 1916 on the Black Ranch in North Stephens County to Charles Dean Knox and Rachel Minerva McPherson Knox. She married Robert Vanno Carey on July 15, 1935 in Archer City. She had been a longtime Breckenridge resident and had lived at Possum Kingdom Lake, Weatherford, and Mineral Wells. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Breckenridge and the Westlake Chapel at Possum Kingdom Lake. She had been a member of the Woman's Club, Woman's forum and the P.T.A.
She is survived by her husband, Vanno Carey of Mineral Wells, three daughters, Jean Hensley of Mineral Wells, Ann Costilow of Austin, and Betsy Pedigo of Aledo; three sons, Dick Carey of Granbury, Rex Carey of Eugene, Oregon, and Kent Carey of Breckenridge; one sister, Rubye Knox Humble of Mineral Wells; one sister-in-law, Irene Knox of Kingsland; 15 grandchildren Carey Arroyo, Kirk Hensley, Jennie & Sarah Costilow; Knox, Brooke & Taylor Carey; Brian, Amy & Emily Carey; Romney & Robert Carey; Carroll Anne Boggs; Rob & Allison Pedigo; and four step grandchildren, three great-grand children Rachael & Michael Arroyo and Nathan Boggs.
Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels in Breckenridge or Mineral Wells or a favorite charity.
Burial was in Breckenridge Cemetery.
