He became a law enforcement officer in Kansas City, serving with O.D.A.L.E. (Office of Drug Abuse Law Enforcement), which later became known as the D.E.A., for two years as an undercover narcotics agent. He then joined the Platt County Sheriff’s Department and served in Narcotics there for three years, followed by a ten-year service with the Scottsdale’s Police Department in Arizona. Steve left law enforcement to work as an Information Technology Manager for Rent-A-Center, IBM, Nokia, and, most recently, Price Waterhouse Cooper.
He met and married ‘Susie’, his true love and sweetheart of forty-five years, in Scottsdale, Arizona on May 5, 1979. They joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints three years later and were sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple on March 30, 1983.
Steve never turned down a chance to serve others in his church and community. He assisted victims in the relief efforts of both Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Harvey. He was a volunteer in the Texas State Guard for several years and took great pride in serving his state, country and fellow man. Steve was passionate about his family, his faith, world history, and firearms. He was a Civil War, WWI, and WWII enthusiast and an avid gun collector with a passion for teaching others about his interests. He loved telling stories and had a photographic memory.
This loving, light-hearted, giant of a man passed away on February 21, 2020 at home in Herriman surrounded by his loved ones after an eighteen-year battle with cancer. Steve is survived by his loving wife, Susan; three of his four children, Jon, Carrie, Matt (deceased), and Amy; and grandson, Luke. He had a radiating smile and spiritual light that will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Pioneer Ninth Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6593 West Herriman Boulevard (12420 South), Herriman.
Graveside services will be held following the funeral in the Herriman City Cemetery.
