Nellie was born May 9, 1935 in Blanchard, Oklahoma to Warren William and Oleta (Cole) Wright. The family moved to Enid, Oklahoma where she grew up and attended school. She fell in love with a young man named Joe Ake and the two were married January 6, 1951. Joe and Nellie were blessed with five children; Garold, Robin, Dianna, Jodi, and Kristy. Joe worked in the oilfield and moved around to where the work was. They settled in Fairview where they raised a family and made a life.
It's been said that Nellie was a feisty woman and that would be the truth. She loved a good prank and had a contagious laugh. Nellie enjoyed music. She and Joe loved to cut a rug at the Rancho and at the dances at Carmen. More recently Nellie could be found at East Side enjoying coffee with her friends. She attended the Longdale dances with her coffee shop buddies and enjoyed listening to the country/western music being played there on Saturday nights.
When the children were young, Nel spent many years working as a waitress at Dave's Steakhouse where she made many lasting friendships. Nel and Jodi opened Cowboys Western Wear in 1986. Later the store became known for its crafts and hand-painted wearables that Kristy and Nel designed. They traveled to many craft shows selling their crafts.
Finally, retirement came from working a full time job but she didn't slow down. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and attending their school activities. She was always a caregiver. She helped with younger siblings while growing up, cared for Joe during sickness, cared for her mother and was still caring for Garold even as her own health declined. She will be missed by her many friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joe, son, Robin, one grandson, Tracy and three brothers.
Left to cherish her memory are her children; Garold Ake, Dianna Strickland and Tim Mattox, Jodi and Bob Seelke, and Kristy Schroeder, two brothers; David Wright and Earl Wright, four sisters; Nettie Clouse, Donna Walton, Sharen Rotenberry and Margaret Lee, eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one on the way, three great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
