Luman and Louise moved to North Dakota. The first three children were born there. They returned to Iowa where Luman A was born. The June 11, 1910, census shows only Luman S and Percy back in North Dakota. On September 24, 1910, he and Percy crossed the border into North Portal, Saskatchewan, Canada. The 1916 Canada Census of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta, record lists Luman with second wife, Ester, also from America.
