Magnus Staskal, 86, Fennimore, died Monday, July 6, 1992. At the time of his death he was a resident of the Fennimore Good Samaritan Center. He was born in Hickory Grove, Dec. 17, 1905. He attended school in Hickory Grove and after leaving school, he worked for Herb Tucker Construction. On Dec. 31, 1930 he married Dorothea Alberta Stenner. In 1931 they moved to the farm they would work together for the next 33 years. In 1964 Magnus retired from farming and they moved to Fennimore. For the next 15 years he worked for Rossing Construction. Magnus and Dorothea had three children, Marvin L. (Pauline) Staskal, Fennimore, Milton K. (Trudy) Staskal, North Freedom and Maynard (Marcella) Staskal, Boscobel. He leaves eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Magnus is surved by his brother, Austie (Bud) Staskal, Boscobel. He was preceded in death by Dorothea in 1971 and his brothers, Emerl J., Doris and Lefern; a sister Marquerite (Staskal) Wetter and a great-grandson, Michael. In 1990 he was married to Ella Larson. She passed away May 5, 1992.

Magnus was an active church member and avid Bible reader all his life. Baptized and confirmed in the Hickory Grove Church, he joined the Marion (Immanuel UCC) Church in 1931. He served as church treasurer for 16 years and was a charter member of the Men's Brotherhood. In the early 1940s and 50s, he and his family actively supported the Rural Bible Crusade in this area. Magnus was a friend to many in this community. In 1944 he was one of the first farmers in Grant County to adopt contour planting. In the old days he had a silo filling run and a threshing machine run. He liked practical jokes and conversations with friends. An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, going for the last time in June. He will be missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 9 at 11 a.m. at the Marion (Immanuel UCC) Church. Friends may call at the Larson Family Funeral Home in Fennimore, Wednesday afternoon, beginning at 4:00.
