Henry Bell was the oldest son of Reason Bell and Sarah Darnell. Henry married Margaret Graybeal on 15 Jan 1848 in Valparaiso, Porter County, Indiana. To this union were born 6 children: Lois E. who died in infancy, Lewis Henry, Sarah Ida, Mary Jane, Alice W., and Amanda Elizabeth.

Mr. Bell was on of the old settlers of this vicinity and was highly esteemed by all with whom he came in contact, and although his demise has been momenttarily expected for some time, it cast a pall upon all when the dread messenger claimed his won. Mr. Bell was born in Wayne county, Ohio, May 2, 1822, and when but 10 years old removed with his parents to Porter county, Ind., where he grew to manhood and married Miss Margaret Graybel, Jan 16, 1848. To them were born six children, five of whom and the mother still survive to mourn his loss. In 1868 he removed to Iowa and settled upon a farm in Delaware township, Polk County, where he resided until 1876, when he moved onto the present homestead. In religious belief he was a Universalist, but never allowed his preferences for that church to be a bar between himself and neighbors who belonged to other churches. He has relatives buried at Peoria City and Cory Grove, but those who best knew his wishes about the matter knew he would rather be laid to rest beside those who had shown him many kindnesses, and he was accordingly interred in the Brethern cemetery. The funeral occured on Tuesday of last week, the last solemn words being delivered by Rev. H. H. Troup. CARD OF THANKS: Mrs. Henry Bell and children desire to extend their most sincere thanks to all neighbors and friends who so unsacrificingly assisted during the last illness of husband and father.
