Beatrice H. Gonzales, 68, a resident of South Shadow Mountain and formerly of El Rito, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2020, surrounded by her loving family following a lengthy illness.

Beatrice was preceded in death by her sons, Sam Chacon and Fernando Herrera; father of her children, Rudy Herrera; parents, Jose P. and Anna Maria Chacon; mother-in-law, Barbara Gonzales; sisters, Agapita “Connie” Lucero, Joanne Chacon and Prescilla Gaviria; half-sister, Dumitilia Peterson; brothers, Tomas Chacon and Dale “Ben” Chacon; half-brothers, Jacobo and Alfonso Gallegos.

She is survived by her husband, Andrew Gonzales; daughter, Mary Alice Herrera of Alcalde, NM; son, Vicente Herrera of South Shadow Mountain, special step-daughter, Arlene Herrera of Oklahoma; step-sons, AJ and Jacob Gonzales of Virginia and Manuel Herrera of Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Kim and Miranda Montoya, Jesse and Samantha Herrera; father-in-law, Lorence Gonzales of Mills, NM; sisters, Ermelinda (Allen) Crim of Abiquiu, NM; Tila Chacon (David Suazo) of El Rito, NM; and Lorraine Prescilla Chacon of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law, Carol Crutchfield of Canyon, TX; brothers, Prudy (Carmen) Chacon, Tony Chacon, and Eusevio Chacon (Susanna Garcia) all of El Rito, NM; Joe “Ted” (Irene) Chacon of Marysville, CA; Fedelino (Tonita) Chacon of Alcalde, NM; and Chris (Maxine) of Taos, NM; brother-in-laws, Bill Gonzales of Springer, NM, and Sims Beeler of Norman, OK, and many other relatives and friends.

Beatrice was a housewife her entire life. She was someone who never hesitated to help others in need. Even in times of her illness she was making sure her loved ones were well taken care of.

Her passion for music and singing was evident in the record and CD she recorded. Music was the way in which she expressed herself when words alone fell short. Beatrice had an infectious personality and was able to make friends anywhere she went.

She referred to her grandchildren as her “pride and joy” and was proud of who each of them have become. She loved cooking and baking, especially making biscochitos and empanaditas (she was an expert at making the twists). She enjoyed get-togethers for holidays, birthdays, and just because days. She was a master at playing cards, quite often making her own rules as she went.

The last couple years of her life were difficult for her due to being in and out of medical facilities. Throughout all the hardship, her faith, hope, and love for God remained strong and resilient. Prayer was important to her and something she did often. Family was and always will be of most significance to her. She is their biggest fan and their greatest and most beautiful guardian angel.
