Country Western Musician. Born in Florence, Kentucky, he was nicked named "Round Mound of Sound" and was best remembered for his work on the long-running television show "Hee Haw". He began playing guitar when he was only five and got his start at age 14 playing on WZIP Radio, Cincinnati. After serving in the US Army in Korea (1952-54), he began playing on the Midwestern Hayride at WLW Cincinnati. A talented singer-songwriter, he had several Top 10 Country Hit records in the 1960s and 70's such as "Walking on the New Grass", "Happy Tracks", "Northeast Arkansas Mississippi County Bootlegger" and "The Sheriff of Boone County". In 1976, he relocated to Nashville and became a regular on the television variety show "Hee Haw", as the bass vocalist for the Hee Haw Gospel Quartet. He died of heart failure at age 56.
