She and her husband came to Mountain Home at the turn of the century. Her husband published the local paper which she took over upon his death in 1903. In 1907 she was selected as Mountain Home Postmaster and served for four years before being elected as Elmore County Treasurer.

She is always listed in the papers as Mrs. Millie E. Longfellow. She was a member of several local organizations and often hosted community events in her home.

She later married David Smith and resided in the Boise area.

Children: Joseph, Lyman, Esther, and William.
