SAN GABRIEL

San Gabriel, April 8.--'Tis trite, though true, to say that a gloom was cast over our community last Saturday night, April 6, when our neighbor, Mrs. E. W. Y. Kirkman passed over. She had been an invalid for many mothers. The first months of her illness were painful; but for the later months she suffered little if any pan. She was a patient and cheerful invalid and retained consciousness to the last. She was a remarkable woman, inasmuch, as she was a most loyal, devoted wife to her husband, a faithful friend to all who knew her, and a most remarkable of all, she bore and reared three noble, manly sons, and four accomplished daughters, who are true ladies. Of all her children there is not one black sheep. Her death was very unexpected at the time it occurred; for she seemed better. Only her husband, three daughters, Misses Ruth, Cora and Sarah Mae; two of her sons, Clarence and Lloyd and a devoted daughter-in-law were present to wipe the death damp from her brow and received her last smiles. Her eldest son, Harold, and a daughter Lola were in Mercedes, Texas, and could not get here until Sunday night; when they arrived to mingle their tears with those of their father, brothers and sisters. She died with the assurance that husband, sons, and daughters were following the path she had mapped out, and directed them into. Funeral services were held at the San Gabriel Baptist Church, conducted by Rev.s Breazele, of Waco, and Hutcherson, of Cameron. Interment was at the Locklin cemetery. Pall bearers were William and Theadore [sic] Locklin, Pete Fulcher, Elmer Barclay, George Carlisle, and Maurice Bartlett.
