Benedict Ernest Christy "Ben" Awana - Ben Awana, 73, died Feb. 1, 1995. Insurance salesman, restraunter, aku fisherman, medicinal healer, inventor, Benedict Ernest Christy "Ben" Awana lived as full a life as anyone. Although he lived the last years of his life in San Diego, CA, Awana was born and raised on Oahu. He graduated from Kamehameha Schools, Class of 1940, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Awana worked for Pacific Insurance, founded Haiku Gardens Restaurant and the He'eia Lookout Lodge and was a charter member of the Kalia Lions Club. He is survived by sons, Ben N., Robert L. and Alan K. all of Honolulu; daughers, Mrs. Max (Annette U.) Wilhelm of Honolulu, Mrs. Clarence (Sandra L.) Kamai of Maui and Mrs. Albert (Michele L.) Kin In of Honolulu; brothers, Thomas K. of Washington State and John A. of Honolulu; sisters, Mrs. Wallace Kong of Honolulu, Mrs. Hiram (Moku) Naipo of Washington State, Mrs. William (Mildred) Griffin of CA and Mrs. Elbert (Roen) Sunn of Kona; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
