Mary Ann Fodge was born in Tennessee. The family believes she moved to Red River County, Texas, in her teens to live with her cousins.

On 11 Aug 1900, she married Frank Evans in Red River County. The family has documented proof of this. She would have been 32 years old. She died within a year of the birth of her son, Arvey. Because he was so young when she died, there were a great many things he never knew. One of them was his actual birth date. Arvey's father, Frank, was a farmer. He worked every day from sun-up to sundown and had little time to care for a toddler. Because of this, Arvey never had any parties to celebrate his birthday, and his father may not have remembered the exact date. No birth certificate has yet been found for Arvey Evans, born 1903 in Red River County, Texas.

Frank believed his job was to farm so he could make a living for his family and that the woman should care for the house and children. Therefore, not long after Annie's death, he married Sarah Jane Mowery who had a son, Fred, who was about Arvey's age. Several years later, when applying for work, Arvey had to provide his full birth date. He decided to use Income Tax Day, which, at that time, was March 15th.

When Frank Evans married Annie, his farm was in Red River County. After he remarried, he and his wife, Sarah Jane, moved to Midway, a country community in Upshur County, with Fred & Arvey. In Midway, Frank farmed approximately 139 acres. When he died, he was buried in Boxelder Cemetery in Red River County, Texas. Because of this, the family believes that Mary Ann "Annie" (Fodge) Evans is also buried in Red River County, possibly in Boxelder Cemetery; however, at this time, we have no definitive proof of that. But Boxelder Cemetery has not yet been fully photographed. Annie's descendants are hoping that one day soon, a volunteer photographer will find Annie's headstone in Boxelder Cemetery or somewhere in Red River County, Texas, take the picture and upload it to this memorial.
