Lowell Dean Bashlor, Sr., 73, of Roanoke, VA, passed away early Sunday morning, July 29, 2007, after a long battle with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He was born in Princeton, WV, December 8, 1933. He graduated Princeton High School, Princeton, WV, 1952, attended Concord College in Athens, WV and went to work for General Electric in Waynesboro, VA, where his beautiful voice became well know, singing many solos for the Waynesboro Choral Society, Schola Cantorum, Westminister Presbyterian and First Presbyterian Churches. Two favorite solos many enjoyed were The Lord's Prayer and each year at Christmas Oh Holy Night. He also upon request sang for other groups such as the Oak Grove Theater and also in the Kiwanis Club minstrels such as "One Last Fling". He did yearly solos from the Messiah and Brahams Requiem as well as solos from Missa Brevis by Zoltan Kodaly, Porgy & Bess and many more. In Waynesboro, he was Cubmaster for Pack 73 organized in 1974 for Westminister Presbyterian where he was also a Deacon and later a Boy Scout leader with First Presbyterian's Troop 44. His musical and scouting years ended when GE transferred Lowell to Roanoke in 1979. He retired with 40 years service in 1995. Lowell was preceded in death by parents, James William in 1938 & Vada Phoebe in 1980, brothers, Clayton Ross in 1988, Clifford Monroe in 1992, and Raymon Lee in 1995, sister, Twila Mae in 1990, half brothers, Archibald in 1953, Norton Alexander in 1969, William Marshall in 1960, and Oscar Zenos in 1967. Surviving are his wife, Audrey Lavon Miller Bashlor; daughter, Martha Jean VonEgger & son-in-law, Lowell VonEgger of Atlanta, GA; daughter, Ann Marie Howard & son-in-law, Robert lee Howard of Roanoke; son, Lowell Dean Bashlor Jr. & daughter-in-law, Dolly Baslor of Roanoke; granddaughter, Stephanie Adams and three grandson, Damian Adams Steven VonEgger, Christopher VonEgger & wife, Amanda all of Damascus, MD, Legend Howard of Roanoke; great-grandson, Kai Adams and great-granddaughter, Lillian VonEgger, both of Maryland, also a close family niece, Margaret (Peggy) Baker of Mt. Carmel, TN. Services will be held at Oakey's Funeral Home located at 4257 Brambleton Avenue 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2007, with the Rev. Robert A. Fielder officiating. Burial will be a Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Oakey's South Chapel.
