Harold Childres, 88, of Morgantown, Ky. passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at his residence. He was born on Sept. 21, 1931 in Butler Co., Ky. to the late Bloomer “B.R.” and Dovie Lindsey Childres. Harold was a retired deckhand and cook for McBride’s Fleet. He enjoyed riding and working on tractors, gardening and loved his dogs. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Zonie Childres; infant daughter Nokia Childres; stepson Kenneth Phelps; brother Buck Childres and sister Maxine Cardwell.
Harold is survived by his children Dudley Childress (Maxine), Harold Dean Childres (Tammy), Darlene Childres Phelps (Kevin) all of Morgantown; stepchildren Mindie Morris, Esther Martin (Jr.) and Lehmon Phelps (Darlene) all of Morgantown; brother Alton Childres (Shelia); sisters Effie Bratcher, Bea House and Betty Childres all of Morgantown; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sister in law Cathlene Childres of Louisville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 7 at 1pm at Smith Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Alford officiating. Burial will follow in the Payton Phelps Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 6 2020.
