Madeline Roach Long
Madeline Roach Long left this life to enter our heavenly Father’s mansion on July 25, 2018. She was born February 17, 1924 in Grottoes to the late Jesse Roach and Margaret Morris Roach James. When she was three months old, they moved to Cumberland, MD. When she was 12 years old, they moved back to Grottoes, VA. She attended school in Maryland, Grottoes and Waynesboro.
Madeline worked at Metro Pants Co. in Harrisonburg, VA for 38 years. After it closed, she went to work in the Housekeeping Department at James Madison University as supervisor, and was promoted to a managerial position. She retired May 1, 1994 at age 70.
Madeline attended Church of Christ until failing health, but continued to watch ministers on TV.

She is survived by her son, Robert Long and wife, Beth, of Woodbridge, VA; son-in-law, Bob Reedy of Penn Laird, VA; the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Eric Reedy and wife, Tanya, Amy Huffman, Matthew Long and wife Jessica, and Liz Long and husband John Kreitzman. Also surviving are her eight great-grandchildren, Sarah, Seth, Luke, Aidan, Hailey, Stone, Wyopie and Eli.
In addition to her parents, Madeline was preceded in death by her precious daughter, Beatrice Reedy; her step-father, John L. James; four brothers, Charles, Atroul, and Randy Roach, and Roy Coffman; five sisters, Evelyn Randall, Francis Breeden, Ruth Kesner, and Margie and Gladys Williams. She was the last surviving member of the family. She leaves behind a very special niece, Fern Chandler, who lived with and cared for her; her special friends and neighbors Jeanie and Steve Gum.
A funeral service will be held at Kyger Funeral Home, at 3173 Spotswood Trail, Harrisonburg, VA on Saturday August 4, 2018 at 2 o’clock officiated by the Rev. Cliff Poirot. Prior to the funeral service a visitation will be held at 1 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
