She was born in Detroit, Michigan and was the daughter of the late Harold and Virginia Beam. Other than her parents, Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Peter J. “Jim” Kurapka; son, Peter James Kurapka, who died in infancy; and brother, Alvin Beam.
Marian was a librarian in the Baltimore, MD schools. She loved family get-togethers, genealogy, history, reading and cooking. Her bread and butter pickles won 1st Place at the Maryland State Fair. She was a member of Nottingham UMC, Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, Carter’s Fort DAR, Scott County Historical Society, and Tri Cities Civil War Roundtable.
She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Keener; son, David James Kurapka and wife Merl Ellen Ross; son-in-law, Brian Keener; grandchildren, Miles Keener, Alex Keener, & Ava Ross Kurapka; close friends, Mike Leonard and Tracy Leonard; and her caregiver, Pam.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 5, 2020 from 5-7 PM at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, VA. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2020 at 10:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Porter officiating. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery.
