Late Royal Madras Artillery. Served throughout the China Expedition 1840 to 1842 was at the capture of Chusan, the Bogue Forts and the capture of Shanghai and Chin Kiang Foo. In 1858 he served with Brigadier General Hill's column. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in 1878.
