Betty Laverne Alexander passed from this life on February 1, 2020 in Pass Christian, Mississippi at age 90.

Laverne was born on April 27, 1929 in Retrop, Oklahoma to Elic Orie Bilbrey and Altha Lucile (East) Bilbrey. She grew up in Carter and lived most of her life around Carter, Elk City and Clinton.

Laverne received her GED and then went to cosmetology school. She became an instructor and owned and operated her own business.

Laverne was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion, VFW and Elks Club. Laverne volunteered many years at the Great Plans Hospital. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and spending time with her family.

Laverne is survived by son Dennis Cowles and wife Elizabeth of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, daughter Linda Joyce Newton of Clinton, Oklahoma. She leaves a legacy of grandchildren: Amanda Bowens and husband Willie of Oklahoma City, Dana Brown and husband Jason of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi and Derek Kimmel also of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Great-grandchildren: Carson and Cameron Brown.

Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, Orie and Lucile Bilbrey, brothers Clifford and Troy Bilbrey, Clarence W. Cowles father of Dennis and Linda, husbands Cecil E. Billingsley and Maurice R. Alexander.

Services for Betty Laverne Alexander are scheduled for Wednesday, February 5, 2020, 11:00 A.M. at the First Baptist Church in Elk City with brother Doc Ware officiating. Interment will follow at Poarch Cemetery.
