Lived near town of Hartford, Union Township, Ohio County, Indiana for most of his life. John's father, John Trader, Sr., left his two baby sons, John and Arthur, in the care of William Wamsley (aka Walmsley, Warmsley) and his wife, Nancy (nee Bussell, Busto), in Boone County, Kentucky. William Wamsley was in the Boone County census of 1810, but I did not find any Trader. (Do not know why. Would like to know if they were family or friends.) In a "Court Orders" book, it says that the two babies were taken from the couple by the sheriff. John was indentured, as a baby, to Isaac Carlton in Boone County, Kentucky. John's brother, Arthur Trader, was indentured to James Porter. (Do not know what became of Arthur.) Isaac Carlton bought land in Dearborn County, Indiana in 1814, and moved there. John is in Dearborn County in 1840 census. In 1850 and 1860 census of Ohio County (formed from Dearborn County). One census lists Kentucky as his birthplace, the other lists Ohio as birthplace. Later, some children list father's birthplace as KY, others as OH. Close ties with Boone County, KY as found on tax roll there as well as Ohio County, IN.
Children: Isaac, Mary Ann (Eli Easterwood), Elizabeth (Abial Dean), Rachel (Amos York), Frances (Charles J. Miller), George, Malinda (Wm. T. Curry), John, Thomas, and Marcus.
Granddaughter Nora Trader Fugitt, daughter of Isaac Trader, is also buried in Ohio County. Their deaths and burials are recorded in the mortality index and can be found at the Ohio County Museum in Rising Sun, Indiana.
