He was a member of a large, gifted, and highly regarded family. He was the son of the late Galeon and Sallie Keltner Janes, one of 13 and the fourth sibling to pass over.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, Lewis, Bill and Johnnie Janes, Ruth Burris, and Ernestine Kemp.
