David L. Bodien, Sr., of Lackawannock Township, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning (March 27, 2019) in his residence, following a courageous 18-year battle with cancer. He was 80.

Mr. Bodien was born April 5, 1937, in Sharpsville, a son of William P. and Ruth Ann (Cole) Bodien.

A lifelong-area resident, he graduated from Sharpsville High School in 1955.
He retired in 1980 from the former Sawhill Tubular Division in Sharon, where he worked as a millwright for more than 25 years.
David was of the Methodist faith.

An outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time working in his vegetable garden. David also loved to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a social member of the Hickory VFW, Hermitage, and the former Loyal Moose Lodge in Mercer.

David married the former Ruby A. Barnes on Sept. 12, 1981, and she passed away Aug. 10, 2007. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, the former Margaret E. Maybray.

Surviving are: a daughter, Peggy (Kenneth) Walker, Greenville; two sons, David (Janet) Bodien, Jr., Masury, and Matthew (Kimberly) Bodien, Lackawannock Township; two step-sons, Brad Adams, New London, N.C., and John Adams, Jr., West Middlesex; a sister, Nancy (Edward) Pence, of Hendersonville; 14 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wives and parents, David was preceded in death by: a son, William "Billy" Bodien; a sister, Patricia Shaffer; three brothers, Charles and James Bodien, and infant Billy Bodien; and two grandsons, Justin Walker and Kenneth "Chip" Walker, Jr.

A private funeral service will be held by the family at a later date.
