Charles Pearsall, 87, Dies at Evansville
EVANSVILLE - Charles J. Pearsall, 87, one of Evansville's most prominent citizens, died Sunday afternoon at his home on W. Main St. of a heart attack.

Mr. Pearsall was born in Ostego County, N.Y. He located in Huntley, Ill., while a young man and in 1876 was employed by his uncle, D.E. Wood, in his butter and cheese factory. He later served as manager if four creameries at Fairfield, Neb.

Mr. and Mrs. Pearsall moved to Evansville in 1890, when Mr. Pearsall entered into a partnership with his uncle in operating the Evansville Creamery, then known as the D.E. Wood Butter Co. The firm operated other creameries at Albany, Magnolia, Cooksville, Story, Belleville, Browntown, South Wayne, Gratiot, Town Line and Shullsburg. The firm was sold to the Cudahy Pacing Co. in 1918.

Mr. Pearsall served three terms as mayor of Evansville and tow terms as supervisor of the first ward. He was president of the board of education for most of a 25-year period and a member of the city council for several years. he was president of the Commercial club and a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Knights of Pythias for over 50 years. He was a member of Modern Woodmen and a contributor to the Congregational church.

Nov. 9, 1887, Mr. Pearsall married Harriett Ellis of Huntley. They observed their 60th wedding anniversary in November.

Survivors are Mr. Pearsall's wife; one daughter, Mrs. Richard Vance, Joliette, Ill.; three sons, Dr. Clifford, Salt Lake City, Utah, Robert, Hindsdale, Ill., and Phil D., Evansville; one brother, C.R. Pearsall, Salt Lake City, Utah; one sister, Mrs. M.C. Joselyn, Elgin, Ill., and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at the Pearsall home Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. Grand V. Clark of Roscoe, former pastor of Evansville Congregational church, will officiate. Interment will be in Maple Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the Allen funeral home.
