Urban was born on February 6, 1923 on a rural farm in Ethan to Louis and Ottilia (Scheich) Weiland. He attended Dimock Catholic grade school, Ethan grade school, and Ethan High School. On February 21, 1955 he was united in marriage with MaryJo (O'Neill) Brenner in Mitchell. After high school he worked for the railroad and farmed raising registered herdford cattle. He also helped his wife at the Blue Oasis Bar in Ethan. They sold their business in April of 1987. The couple moved to Custer, to manage the American President's Motel and later the Pine Crest Motel in Sioux Falls. He retired because of health reasons and moved back to Ethan in November of 1993.
He was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and UCT of the United Moose.
Grateful for having shared his life are his children: Bob Brenner, Nancy (Randy) Schoenfelder, Joe Weiland all of Ethan, SD; daughter-in-law Debra Brenner, Ethan, SD; Five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Weilandk, Ethan, SD, Lewis (Barbara) Weiland, Hager City, WS; two sisters Mary (Ray) Bersten, Vallejo CA, Dorothy Bras, Seattle, WA a cousin, Jack (Cecelia) Weiland, Ethan, SD; several nieces and nephews; and "Doc" his dog.
He is preceded in death by his wife Mary in 2004 and two sisters Monica and Margaret.
A Mass of Christian Burial Service will be 10:00 AM Friday, July 28, 2006 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Ethan with burial to follow at a later date.
