James L. Smith, 56, of Dennisport, died Thursday at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis after a long illness. He was the husband of Ann M. (Gallant) Smith since 1976. Mr. Smith was educated in the Harwich schools. After graduation he worked for Estes Auto Supply in Orleans from 1966 to 1983. From 1983 to 1994, he was employed at Barbo’s Furniture in Dennisport. He retired due to illness. Surviving besides his wife are a son, James M. Smith of Dennisport three daughters, Norma L. Burton of Hyannis, Mae L. Wordell of Harwich, and Victoria A. Flagg of Dennisport; six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Interment will be private in Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Dennis. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 W. Chestnut St., Brockton, MA 02401.
