Published in The Signal (Santa Clarita, California), Thurs., 12 Mar 1950 - Oldster born Crowder, dies as Willis Smith - An old gentleman who has always asserted his name to be Willis R. Smith, was found lifeless in his cabin on the Sam Hyman place last Wednesday.

The remains were taken to the Hilburn Chapel mortuary, and when Ed Hilburn went through the papers of the deceased he found an address in St. Louis. Contacting this address he got another address in Fulton, Kentucky, and it was from this that he learned the true name of the man, which was David Napoleon Browder.

Mr. Hilburn was informed that Browder had been born In the Kentucky City on January 28, 1870. That as a young man he had left the city and practically disappeared.

It was not until hearing from Mr. Hilburn that a sister, giving her name as Mrs. Nannie Browder Watts, got to know of what had become of her brother.

Mr. Hilburn could learn little about the events surrounding the change of name and departure. Mr. Smith-Browder had lived on the Hyman place for the past 12 years.

Besides his sister he is survived by a niece and nephew in Kentucky.

Rev. Carlos Stcpp officiated at graveside services in Restland Memorial Park, Wednesday morning.
