Funeral services for Howard E. Podoll, 77, of 813 South Aldrich, Aberdeen, were held on Saturday, July 10 at 10 a.m., at Our Savior Lutheran Church with the Rev. Raymond L. Pomplun officiating. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Mr. Podoll died on Tuesday, July 6, at St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Honorary casketbearers were all of his friends. Active casketbearers were Lloyd Neitzel, Frankfort; Burton Neitzel, Groton; Larry Griffiths, Duane Griffiths, Arlen Griffiths and Randy Griffiths, all of Aberdeen.

Organist for the service was El Schamber. Soloist was Garth Zieman. Ushers were Woodrow Jasmer and Elmer Peck.

Howard Edward Podoll was born near Sand Lake, north of Columbia on April 2, 1905, to Herman and Mary Becker Podoll. This is the area where he attended rural school. He did farm work in this area He was married to Lillian M. Griffiths at Aberdeen on April 7, 1928. They made their home near James and later farmed in the Tacoma Park area until 1950 when they moved to Aberdeen. He worked for the Sears Farm Store until 1954, when he became manager of the Warner Farmer's Union Co-op, until he semi-retired in 1968. He worked part-time for Haberer Dairy Supply in Aberdeen until 1970.

He was a past member of the Cambria Township Board, and a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he held several offices.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian Podoll of Aberdeen; two sons, Derald Podoll, Ogden, Utah; Duane Podoll, Webster; one sister, Mrs. Martha Neitzel, Aberdeen; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Derald (Jerry) Eugene Podoll of Fayetteville, GA passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on October 13, 2018. Jerry was born March 5, 1929 in Brown County, South Dakota to the late Howard and Lillian Podoll. He was a loving father and grandfather and a devoted husband to the late Marilyn Podoll for nearly 40 years.

Jerry was a retired Master Sargent from the United States Air Force and was a decorated veteran of the Korean War. He remained active in both the VFW and the American Legion for many years and was the Grand Historian for the Mellette S.D. post.

Jerry was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed traveling, hunting and fishing. Jerry loved to ice fish and to hunt pheasants in his native South Dakota. He loved dogs and had several over the years, including “Scooter,” “Fifi,” “Kavie,” “Buster” and his precious little “Sadie.”

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Marilyn, his brother Duane and scores of aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his daughters Sonya Brown of Wyoming and Sheila Studdard of Fayetteville, GA, along with grandchildren Justin, Nathaniel, Joseph, Jack and great-grandchildren.

A military memorial service will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 2:00pm at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church located at 257 Highway 314, Fayetteville, GA. 30214. Visitation is Friday, October 19, 2018 at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, GA.
