Carolyn Sprenger Matte, Age 77, passed peacefully from our family’s hands to the Lord’s hands on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at her home.

She was born August 27,1942 to John Henry Sprenger and Merle Modesett Sprenger in San Antonio, TX.

She attended Thomas Jefferson High School where she graduated in 1960.

Carol had a very active social life in her youth and could frequently be seen in her beloved 1957 Ford Fairlane convertible with the top down and her blonde hair flowing as she sped through town. She was awarded 3rd runner up and Miss Congeniality when she competed in the 1960 Miss San Antonio Pageant.

Following her older sister, Jeanene, she moved to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1964 where she worked as a Secretary at the University of Alaska- Fairbanks and met her future husband, Army Lieutenant John F. Matte from Missoula, Montana. On July 31, 1965 at Fort Wainwright; Carol married John, her best friend and the love of her life. Their marriage would last 55 years and produce two beautiful daughters, Dawn and Michelle.

After the birth of their first daughter Dawn, Carol convinced John to leave the cold weather behind and return to San Antonio. In 1969, John and Carol both got their real estate licenses and the following year their youngest daughter Michelle was born. John worked full time in Real Estate while Carol chose to stay home and raise her two daughters. She was an outstanding Mother with high morals and became the foundation of their home and family.

After raising both of her daughters, Carol and John worked tirelessly to develop and launch, The Home Team Realtors (now Home Team of America). She was a night owl who loved playing golf and spades, dancing, sunbathing, The Golden Girls, rooting for The San Antonio Spurs, Sunday broadcasts of Cornerstone services and spending summers with her grandchildren.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her mother and father, her sister Jeneane M. Ricketson, and many Aunts and Uncles.

She is survived by her husband, John F. Matte; her two daughters, Dawn E. Jackson and Michelle (Jason) Ruhnke. Four Grandchildren; Kayla L. Matte, Andria (Michael Randle) Jackson, Brittany (Michael) Vesely, and Colt R. Ruhnke. Four Great-Grandchildren; Aubree L. Ritchie, Macie-Rae Randle, Avery M. Ritchie and Mackenzie F. Vesely. She is also survived by her Neice, Patricia “Patsy” Smith and numerous cousins in both the Granger and San Antonio area as well as her cherished cat Skitten.

She was always the most beautiful woman in the room and loved by all who met her; She will be deeply missed.

At her request, services will be held at Condra Funeral Home; Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 10:30am followed by the interment at the Beard Family Cemetery in Granger, TX.
