Graves was born in Hewitt, Texas, on October 1, 1918, to Edward Graves Blanton and Mary Vaughan Blanton.
He graduated from Baylor University with B.B.A and M.A. degrees. At Baylor he met and married Katherine Swigert and they remained together for many happy years.
Graves volunteered for duty in the U.S. Navy and reached the rank of Commander. He was a 44-year member of Waco Masonic Lodge No. 92 A.F. & A.M. Graves headed up Financial Development programs at Baylor, the University of Texas and Texas Tech. He was Vice-President for Development at Southwestern University. He consulted at a large university in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and served as Director of Development at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco.
His wife, Katherine, preceded him in death in 1999.
Graves is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Stewart, of Edmonton Canada; son, Edward Blanton of Austin; grandchildren, Laura Blanton and Demian McKibben and many loving relatives. As Graves requested, his body was donated to the Texas A&M University Health Science Center. Private family and Masonic memorial ceremonies are to be held.
