Marriage Licenses
Are Issued To Seven


Seven marriage licenses have been issued during the past week from the office of Myrtle Young Taylor, court clerk of Washita county, bringing the total for the first part of December to nine, an average of a license a day.

Applicants for marriage licenses since last Wednesday have included Hubert F. McKenney, 23, and Josephine R. Coleman, 18, both of Custer City; and; Arthur DeShane, 21, of Sayre and Dorothy Stockstill, 20, of Erick; . . .

Is Married Saturday


Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Swearingen announce, the marriage of their daughter, Mattie, to Arthur DeShane of Oklahoma City. The marriage was an event of Saturday, September 4 at the Methodist parsonage with Rev. J. B. Cooprider officiating.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Roseboom and Miss Lovella Swearingen, sister of the bride, were attendants of the couple.

The bride is a graduate of the Perry High School and has been employed for the last several years as saleslady in the J. C. Penney store in Perry.

The couple will make their home in Oklahoma City after September 15, where the groom is employed with the American Tank company.

In Armed Forces

Special tribute is being paid this year to all graduates of Sayre highschool who are now serving in various branches of the armed forces. Most of these men will be unable to attend the annual Homecoming this year, but they occupy an exalted place in all our hearts, and during the celebration, they will not be forgotten.

The following list of 56 of the Alumni who are in the service is as complete as all available information could make it. the type of service and address of some of the men were unknown.

Art DeShane Dies Sunday

Funeral services for Arthur R. DeShane, 823 W. 2nd, who died at Ranger, Tex., Sunday, will be conducted from the Martin Funeral Home Chapel Thursday, Jan. 3, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Glenwood Buzbee officiating. Burial will follow in the Sayre-Doxey cemetery.

Art was born Sept. 5, 1910, at Sayre where he lived and graduated from the Sayre High School. Following graduation he was employed by the United Carbon Plant at Sayre for several years.

Later he attended a wedding school in Oklahoma City. He then entered the service in 1942 and was assigned to the Navy where he became Chief Shipfitter. Following his discharge on Sept. 7, 1945, he returned to his former position at United Carbon and worked in Kansas for sometime before being employed by Shell Oil Co. For the past eight years he had worked at the post office here where he was presently employed.

He was a member of the Sayre Methodist church.

He was united in marriage to Miss Dorothy Stockstill Dec. 5, 1930,(sic) at Oklahoma City. She survives him. Other survivors include a son, Richard Deshane of Corpis Christi, Tex.; 3 grandchildren; a brother, Leo DeShane, Eufaula; and 2 nieces, Mrs. J. O. Woods, Ft. Worth, and Mrs. Margie Pokorny of Lawton.

Note: Correct first marriage date was 1931. Later divorced and remarried again in 1972 after the death of his 2nd wife Mattie.
