September 18, 1921 - January 28, 2016 Cary Mary Dean Clonts Merritt, of Glenaire Retirement Community, died Thursday, January 28, 2016, from complications after suffering a stroke. Mary was born in Smyrna, Georgia, on September 18, 1921, the daughter of the late Effie Ophelia Hipps and Ernest Moten Clonts. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bruce. Survivors include her sister, Jane Clonts Lake of Austell, Georgia; daughters and sons-in-law Melinda and Terrill Hope of Charlottesville, Virginia, Susan and Arthur Lee of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Deborah and Mark Bragg of Mechanicsville, Virginia; grandchildren, Bruce Hope, Charles Hope (Devon), Katy Hope (Alex Cohen), Jessica Lee, Megan Lee Bullock (Kris), Ross Bragg, Amelia Bragg; and great-grandchildren, Gil Hope, Trent Hope, William Hope, Maeve Hope, Peter Cohen, Theodore Cohen, and Lawson Bullock. A private memorial service will be conducted at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flint Hill Methodist Church, 4072 Hiram Sudie Road, Hiram, Georgia 30141
