"Death Of Nancy Bierly"
After attaining the ripe age of 86, Mrs. Nancy Bierly quietly passed away last Sunday, in that home where she lived with her husband nearly seventy years. She was born February 4, 1813 in Shelby County, Kentucky and came to Washington County about 1814. On the 21st day of May 1829 she was wedded Solomon Bierly who still survives at the age of 91 years. Eight children were born, six of whom are living. Catharine Crouch of Gosport; Mary Jane Dowden of Cedar Gap, MO; Jacob T. Bierly of Pekin; Elizabeth Karnes of Martinsburg; Cynthia A. Gray of Spencer, Indiana; and Emma C. Wells who lives with her father. Mrs. Bierly leaves six children, 37 grand children, 88 great grand children and one great-great grand child, a total progeny of 132. Few living mothers can claim as great a number of descendants as this. Mrs. Bierly was all her life a strict Methodist. The funeral was the largest ever held in the neighborhood. The aged husband is quite feeble and the loss of his life-companion is a terrible shock. He has the sympathy and the best wishes of the Democrat.
