The Rev. Amerine was born Dec. 26, 1921, in Tulsa, Okla. He graduated from Central Bible College in Springfield, Mo., and was a pastor in the Assemblies of God church until the late 1950s, when he was excommunicated for being gay. In 1970, he joined the Metropolitan Community Church and became a deacon and then a pastor. He founded Metropolitan Community churches in Portland, Spokane and Bellevue, and he was the Northwest district coordinator for the church from 1973 to 1974 and 1978 to 1982. He lived in Portland from 1976 to 1982, then in Spokane until moving to Bellevue in 1986.
Survivors include his son, Robert of Alexandria, Va.; daughter, Dorothy Price of Ocala, Fla; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Disposition is by cremation. Rev. Amerine had suggested remembrances to AAAmerine Retreat Center, 2261 Market St. No. 63, San Francisco, Calif. 94114. Arrangements were by Bleitz Funeral Home in Bellevue.
