Long time resident of Abilene, John C. Yancy, 73, now of Austin, was carried by angels to heaven, on September 19, 2005 after a long battle with heart disease. John was joyously welcomed into Heaven by his mother and father, Emmitt and Vella Yancy and Brother Franklin Yancy.
John was a blessing to all who knew him. The light of his life was his daughter and granddaughter. John is survived by his wife of 53 years, JoAnn Gilbreth Yancy, daughter and son-in-law Karla and Michael Draper, his granddaughter Page Pauline Draper and sister Vernell Esh of Granbury, Texas, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved and cared for deeply, calling the "his children".
Mr. Yancy was born in Lufkin, Texas on February 27, 1932. He attended school at Abilene High, St. Joseph's Academy and Hardin Simmons University where he excelled in basketball. He served in Korea for 22 months with the 8th Army Division. John worked 42 years for West Texas Utilities then transferring to Central and Southwest Services in Dallas where he was the Supervisor of Control Center Accounting, retiring in May 1994.
He loved sports, especially golf with his long time friends Bill Scott, Ron Hardage, Billy B. Woods and deceased friend, Jim Hoffman. John's personal relationships were very important to him throughout his life. His caring and respect for others was well known by all.

Graveside rites with close friends and family will be at 10:00 am on Monday, September 26, 2005 at Elmwood Memorial Park, under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held in honor of Mr. Yancy on Monday at 2:00 pm at The Hamil Family Funeral Home Chapel, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road.
