Alice Jane Berlekamp, 87, recently of Spring Hill, passed away on February 18, 2019. She was born on September 4, 1931 to Charles and Ida (Doudney) Faris in Castle Rock, CO.
Alice grew up between Climax and Leadville, Colorado before moving to Buckner, Missouri and eventually to Independence, Missouri, where she graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1949. While attending a church gathering, she met the love of her life, Donald Berlekamp, Alice and Don were married on June 24, 1949 and had three children together. In 1964, they made Lenexa, Kansas their home and stayed there for 53 years. She spent most of her time as a homemaker, but in her later years, she worked as a waitress for events at Ramada Inn. Alice loved gardening, fishing, and bird watching (especially cardinals).Alice is survived by her loving children, Dennis Berlekamp, Linda Benedick-Berlekamp, and Carol Berlekamp; grandsons, Scott (Kim) Benedick and Michael Benedick; great-grandsons, Keaton Benedick and Tevin Benedick; and her brother, Richard (Shirley) Faris.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Berlekamp; siblings, Helen M. Faris, Charles “Chuck” Faris, William “Bill” Faris, Betty J. Bellmyer, and Dorothy A. Farris.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5:00-7:00pm on Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Penwell Gabel’s Olathe Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Rotary International to support all of the work they do. Donations can be made directly through their website at https://www.rotary.org/en/give.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff, nurses, and doctors at Overland Park Regional Medical Center for their care and compassion during such a difficult time.
