….Mr. Becker was born on a farm in the town of Germantown, Washington County, Feb. 8, 1879, and was 42 years and 4 months of age at the time of his demise. He was reared on the farm and later went to Merton where he was employed in a butter factory for two years. Feb. 22, 1905, he was united in marriage to Miss Emma Reichert, of the town of Hartford, after their marriage going to North Lake, where they resided for one year, when they mover to Hubertus, where he was employed in a cheese and butter factory. Two years later they moved to Mr. Becker’s father’s farm in the town of Polk, one and one-half miles northwest of Pleasant Hill. Five children were born to them, one dying in infancy. The surviving children are; Beatrice, 15, Catherine, 13, Oliver, 7, and Lucille, 3, all at home and who remain to console the broken-hearted mother. The father and one sister also preceded him in death.
The sad passing of this well-known man was a cruel blow to the family and a sudden shock to the community. Mr. Becker was ever a hard-working industrious citizen and played an active part in the development of his community. He was elected as assessor for one term for the town of Polk, and was one of the largest stockholders in the Pleasant Hill cheese factory of which he was an officer. He was also interested in church work, and for the past number of years was one of the trustees of St. John’s Evangelical church of near Ackerville. He was always connected with every good move and could be counted upon as a willing worker in the interest of his neighbors and fellow men. His family life was exemplary and he filled his position in life to the very best of his ability. His untimely and sad ending will ever be a cause for regret on the part of all who knew him and the sympathy of all is extended to the bereft wife and family of small children.
Funeral services were held yesterday (Thursday) afternoon from his late home at 2 o’clock after which the remains were taken to St. Jon’s Evangelical church of near Ackerville, where final services were held and interment made in the adjoining cemetery.
