Funeral service for Nettie Anne Ballou Barber will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Paradise Valley Baptist Church, north of Lawton, Oklahoma with Donny Crittendon, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Cyril, Oklahoma officiating.
Burial will follow in Paradise Valley Cemetery, north of Lawton under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.
Nettie Anne Ballou Barber, age 100, of Paradise Valley, north of Lawton, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020 at her home in Paradise Valley. Anne was born February 20, 1919 at her parent’s home in Paradise Valley to Tilford and Annie (Maguire) Ballou. Anne graduated from Elgin High School and attended Cameron College where she earned her Associate Degree in Business. She worked at the Lawton Meat Market and later civil service at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. She married COL (Retired) James Frank Barber, Jr. on December 5, 1947 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The family lived in various places with the military. After Frank’s passing on January 7, 1961, Anne and her three children moved back to Oklahoma where she went to work at Fort Sill working for the civil service. She retired to enjoy her family and travel. Anne was an active member of Paradise Valley Baptist Church where she was also the last surviving charter member. She selflessly gave a lifetime of love to us all. She’ll be greatly missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Jamie Porter, son James F. Barber, III, son-in-law, Duston Rhoades, daughter, Carolyn Moussa, daughter-in-law, Sandy Barber, six granddaughters, Lynn Barber, Carol Parks and husband Kelly, Kendra Wells, Lacy Hill and husband Dustin, Kasey and Shelby Simmons-Barber, Tristan Benedict and husband Drew, four grandsons, Greg Barber, Jeffrey Porter and wife Kristen, James F. Barber, IV and wife Melody, Chance Barber and girlfriend Nikki Ray, and numerous great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, James C. Barber, daughter, Linda J. Wells, son-in-law, James E. Porter, grandson-in-law, Todd Hill, two great granddaughters, Ashley Parks, and Aiyanna Barber, three brothers, Seth, Walter, and Julius Ballou, two sisters, Clara Carver and Mamie Heathco.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paradise Valley Baptist Church, 4974 Meers Porter Hill Rd., Lawton, OK 73507.
