Homer Franklin (Red)Hubbard, 78, son of the late Charles B. Hubbard and Samantha Jane (Cooper) Hubbard, was born in Texas County, near Houston on April 2, 1909, and died Sept. 30, 1976 at the Texas County Memorial Hospital in Houston.

He was united in marriage to Ona McKinney December 4, 1925 and to this union three daughters were born. He and his wife celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1975.

Besides his wife, Ona, he is survived by his daughters, LaWanda Crinklaw of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Jane Harris of West Plains, Mo., Lynda Cummings of Fulton, Illinois; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Oscar, Tobe, John, and Pete.

Mr. Hubbard was widely known in this area and served as sheriff of Texas County from 1937 to 1941. He spent most of his life in the Houston vicinity and was a barber by trade until ill health forced his retirement. Mr. Hubbard was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing remaining active in both sports as long as his health permitted. He was a World War I veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. in the Evans Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ervin Morton officiating. Burial was in the Pinelawn Cemetery.
