She came to America 55 years ago as a young woman and was married to Fred A. Johnson, the ceremony being performed by Rev. W.A. Lipe, then pastor of St. John's Lutheran church. To them seven children were born, all of whom are living. Mrs. Charles (Fried) Ness (Nuss) of Burlington, Ia., Mrs. George (Minnie) Steltzer of Sterling, Mrs. John (Anna Marie) Ahrens of Fairbault Minn., Emil Johnson of Fairbault, Minn., Mrs. George Evans of Council Bluffs, Ia., Mrs. John Larkey of Morrison and Louis Johnson of Elgin.
Her husband preceded her in death June 10, 1881 when the children were young, but the widowed mother bravely accepted her task of rearing her children, who with 32 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren mourn the loss of a good and faithful mother.
She was united in marriage the second time to John Gieson Jan. 12, 1893 who also preceded her in death the spring of 1901. After his death she made her home with her children, spending the last 15 years in Council Bluffs Iowa and several years preceding in Fairbault, Min...
