James F Carey Dies, Expert on Land Grants. (heading has his name as Carey, but rest of article reports Casey)
age 90, who worked for more than 50 years in the Government land grant program died yesterday in Falls Church.
A news report at the time of his retirement in 1941 from the Interior Department described Mr Casey as having more personal knowledge than any other living man of the land grant program....
Mr Casey's parents were James F Casey, collector of customs for the port of New Orleans, and Emily Dent Casey, sister of Julia Dent, the wife of Gen Ulysses S Grant. Born in Louisiana, Mr Casey moved to Washington in 1886 after his father died...
He married Antonia Harvey in 1900. She died in 1939.
Mr Casey leaves a son, James F, jr, of 1108 North Roosevelt Street, Arlington, where he made his home, and a daughter, Mrs Robert Gates of Route 2, McLean, Va.
