Originally from the small town of Meriden, CT, the self-anointed Polish princess traveled across the globe to Tokyo, Japan as a Foreign Service secretary, where she met her husband, Jack. After many tours abroad in the Far East and Pacific region, they settled in Alexandria, where she supported his private legal practice while also pursuing her passion of writing novels as an avocation. After his death in 2003, Mrs. Knowles continued writing, completing several novels although never attempting publication. An out-sized personality of great humor, extreme candor, and generous, honorable character at her core, Mrs. Knowles lived her life by her own terms as long as she was able. Her spirit will be dearly missed. She is survived by her daughter, Mimi Knowles Clark of Springfield, VA; grandchildren, Jamie Clark Savage of Mobile, AL, Emily, John, and David of Springfield, VA; great-granddaughter, Riley Savage of Mobile, Al; and her son John, of Alexandria, VA. At her request, services shall be private among immediate family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Inova Health Foundation.
